When I first moved to Sigonella, I met a few members of the Ash Kickers Sigonella Derby League. They were out on a fundraiser selling their awesome gear, cupcakes and salsa and doing a little recruiting for the team. I told them I wasn’t interested in playing, but would be happy to help support them with team portraits! Not long after that, the whole team piled into my small studio for an extremely fun evening of posing, laughing and cheering each other on to rock their portraits. I quickly saw what an awesome group they had and how much theses ladies love not only their sport, but their team!
The girls did an amazing job showing their true personalities along with a bit of their skater alter ego’s! This group of ladies is so diverse and I think that’s what makes them an awesome team. They have young enlisted sailors, mothers, and military spouses out there working hard on their skills every week to become better skaters and friends; knowing that it won’t be long before some of them move on to their next duty station. The hope is that they will continue this sport after they move back to the states and rock the flat track representing their Ash Kicking roots!’
I’m looking forward to an awesome relationship with these ladies and photographing them as much as I can. Be sure to check out their Facebook page to learn a bit more about the team, see photos and find out when the next event is so you can support this local team or skate with them!
