Let me tell you about these four right here! They are the sweetest little family! They’ve been absolutely wonderful to work with, have been super welcoming and funny… just an absolute pleasure! We first met when Hillary was in the hospital, just hours from giving birth to little Macklin when I photographed their birth journey. Just days later I was back with them to photograph little Macklin’s newborn session. They opted for a lifestyle newborn session at their Hampton Roads home, which was super cozy and perfect for a rainy spring day! They had a blast laughing, cuddling, and enjoying some time bonding as a new family of four.
A quick note on lifestyle sessions: While lifestyle sessions work for just about anyone, these are particularly great for families who are not having their first baby. Here’s why: typically home is a great environment for a toddler because there isn’t anything new distracting them, they’re comfortable there, and they have their toys to keep them busy when they inevitably decide that they’re done with photos. Asking a two year old to sit still through a full two hour session in a park while we focus on the new baby is asking a LOT! It also makes timing of the session much easier, because rather than planning around a toddlers nap or bedtime, we can use it to our advantage and schedule for just before or after when they may be in their best mood!
In this instance mom knew that her two year old son was typically in a good mood between lunch and nap, we were able to take some quick photos of everyone together and then pile the family up into the master bedroom for a little story time before sending him off to nap while we finished up the more posed images of mom and dad with babygirl and just the little one!
